Icons
The assembly of ancient
Russian art of the museum includes painting, wooden
sculpture and copper moulding. However, most significant
and valuable part of the collection are icons. The early
samples of icons dated the time of icon golden age
paintings of the 15th century: they belong to the most
outstanding Moscow and Novgorod schools. The icons of the
16th-17th centuries are the testimony of great
achievement and art originality of the masters from
Yarosluvl, Kostroma, Aphona, northern areas. The deeply
original and expressive Siberian letter is represented by
the icons of the local masters of the second half of the
17th-18th centuries.
